Looking to the Future — St Peter’s School and the Vicarage Wood Time Capsule

As part of our 2025 Groundbreaking Ceremony at Vicarage Wood, one of the most meaningful moments was filling of our time capsule — a symbol of optimism, community, and the legacy we hope to build here in South Weald.

The capsule, which will be opened in 2050, twenty-five years from burial, holds keepsakes, letters, and memories contributed by our guests, partners, and friends — including a very special collection from our neighbours at St Peter’s Church of England Primary School.

Messages from the next generation

The pupils at St Peter’s filled the capsule with photographs of their classes, letters to their future selves, that capture their hopes and dreams for the years ahead.
Accompanied by photographs of the children carefully placing their items into the capsule, the moment perfectly embodied what the day stood for: togetherness, continuity, and the idea that what we create today will one day become part of someone else’s story.

A shared purpose

Journey Homes is proud to have built a lasting partnership with St Peter’s School — a wonderful primary school known for its nurturing ethos, dedicated staff, and strong community spirit.
Just a seven-minute walk from Vicarage Wood, St Peter’s is at the very heart of village life, making it an ideal local school for future families who will call our new development home.

From sponsoring the St Peter’s Girl’s Football Team to supporting the school’s walking bus initiative with high-visibility jackets, our relationship continues to grow in meaningful and practical ways — always with the shared goal of promoting safety, inclusivity, and aspiration.

We were thrilled to see the children’s input in the capsule. It’s a beautiful reminder that what we build today will shape the world they inherit tomorrow

Building memories that last

The time capsule represents everything our Community Pledge stands for — building responsibly, supporting local education and employment, and enhancing the communities where we build.

In twenty-five years’ time, when the capsule is unearthed, we hope those same pupils — now adults — will return to see how their younger selves helped shape the wonderful area they grew up in.

Until then, the capsule will rest quietly beneath the soil at Vicarage Wood — a timeless reminder that every journey begins with a single step, and every home holds a story yet to be told.
